James Coulston
Founder and Director
James is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon and National Clinical Advisor for Patient Safety to Health Education England and works as an advisor to the South West Academic Health Science Network. He has previously been the Clinical Director for Patient Safety and Human Factors at a Large NHS Foundation Trust and Training Programme Director for Core Surgical Trainees. He has been teaching and training in Human Factors for over 15 years and has a wealth of experience in understanding the impact of Human Factors and team dynamics in health care and industry.

Richard Bamford
Director
Richard is a Consultant Surgeon and Training Programme Director at the Severn School of Surgery and was Health Education England South West Simulation Fellow. He has a extensive experience in developing Induction Boot Camp programmes, technical and non-technical simulation programmes, e-learning programmes and delivering Human Factors Training. He has been awarded the prestigious Silver Suture Award, a national award of excellence for the impact of his educational programmes.

Laura Pickup
Human Factors Expert
Laura is a chartered human factors practitioner and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. She originally worked clinically in the NHS as a Physiotherapist but has now worked for over 20 years as a human factors professional within a range of industries focusing on healthcare.
Laura has extensive practical experience in delivering commercial and European funded projects, consultancy, training and education for public bodies and industry. Her work has included medical device design, system analysis for healthcare improvement and education for universities, medical deaneries and the GMC.
Currently Laura works at a national level in the field of healthcare investigations.

Caroline Lacy
Midwifery Lead
Caroline is a senior midwife and PMA at a large teaching hospital. She has been leading the way through simulation-based education and innovation for several years as an NLS instructor for the Resuscitation Council and previous faculty lead for PROMPT. She has implemented a number of large-scale safety process changes and is the designer of the maternity ERA(S) system. Caroline leads the maternity work for Momus Safety having worked with K2 designing safety education for maternity units nationwide.

Rowan Gundry
Senior Faculty
Rowan is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who has written and delivered human factors and simulation training programs to promote safety in maternity care over a period of ten years. With a bachelor in Bioethics and Law she is passionate about the processes around informed consent and shared decision-making. She has represented the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in this area, tutored at the University of Bristol and developed multi-disciplinary training to address these aspects of the Ockenden Report.

Alex Humphreys
Senior Faculty
Alex is a Senior Breast Surgical Trainee and was the Simulation and Non-Technical Skills Fellow for Health Education England South West. She is the Education and Trainee Representative for the Mammary Fold, a national body representing Breast Trainees and Chair of the South West Trainee Committee. She has developed a wide range of national training programmes including Pre-Consultant Boot Camp Programmes and Team and Leadership training.

Mark Abou-Samra
Senior Faculty
Mark graduated from The University of Birmingham Medical School completed his Foundation programme in the West Midlands. He is a consultant Surgeon who trained within the Southwest. As part of his this he completed Advanced Training in Vascular and Paediatric Anaesthesia followed by a Bariatric Fellowship.
He is the lead for pre-operative assessment and post-operative care. He previously held the role as theatre simulation lead and managed the delivery of in situ simulation for all theatre departments in addition delivered Anaesthetic Emergency courses. All with a focus on safety, human factors and patient care.
